Meet Michelle, the person behind Empower Hours
Hello, I'm Michelle Betts, founder of ByJove Media and the person you will work with during your Empower Hour.
18 years of experience, applied to your business
I have worked in social media for over 18 years and founded ByJove Media in 2008. That means I have watched social media grow from something businesses were not convinced they needed into an established part of marketing, customer service, recruitment and professional visibility.
I have also watched people become increasingly overwhelmed by it.
There are more platforms, more features and far more advice than there used to be. Much of that advice is delivered as though every business has a content team, a video editor and several spare hours each day. Most of the businesses I work with do not.
Practical advice based on real work
Through ByJove Media, I work directly with businesses on social media strategy, content, account management, advertising and campaigns. I am not teaching social media as a theory that I have never had to apply.
I see what happens when a campaign attracts attention but the wider customer journey is not ready. I know how difficult it can be to create content when you are also delivering the service, managing the team and dealing with everything else involved in running a business.
I also know that more content is not always the answer. Sometimes a business needs a clearer message. Sometimes the profile is not explaining the offer properly. Sometimes the right people are not seeing the content, or there is no obvious next step once they do. Training gives us the chance to look at the whole picture.
Helping people understand social media
I have trained hundreds of people and organisations, from sole traders and employees taking on a new responsibility to established teams and audiences of up to 100.
My work has included training for Horsham District Council and speaking at the BIRA Direct Annual Conference. In 2025, I was nominated in five categories at the Digital Women Awards, including Digital Woman of the Year, Social Media Manager of the Year and Digital Trainer or Educator.
The recognition is lovely, but the part of training I value most is the moment somebody realises that social media is not beyond them. They simply needed it explained in a way that related to their business.
Why I created Empower Hours
Not every business needs ongoing social media management or a full training programme. Sometimes you need an experienced person to look at your accounts, answer your questions and help you make a decision.
You may need to know why your Instagram account has stopped moving forward, how to turn your knowledge into LinkedIn content or which parts of your current strategy are worth keeping. You might simply want an hour where you can ask all the questions you have been quietly collecting.
Empower Hours give you direct, focused support without asking you to commit to something larger than you need.
What it is like to work with me
I will not make you feel foolish for asking a question. Social media platforms are not always intuitive, and they frequently change things that people had only just worked out how to use.
I will explain what matters, show you how it relates to your goals and be honest when something is unlikely to be worth your time.
I will also challenge you when needed. If you are trying to talk to everyone, use every platform or create content without a clear purpose, I will help you narrow the focus.
My approach is friendly and supportive, but the advice will always be practical.
